Sober Living In Florida – Experiencing The Sober Life

Posted by jakeandtycho - February 6th, 2012

The private residential care facilities located in sober living in Florida provide a safe harbor for people in the early stages of rehabilitation from drug or alcohol addiction. The cost of living is surprisingly low in Florida, possibly because of the annual risk of hurricanes. Ironically, the standard of living is high.

Community Living

Communal living in early stages of recovery provides a support system aimed at preventing relapse. The first three months, in particular the first month, of sobriety are the most difficult. Staying in a communal living situation among people with the similar problems and similar goals makes the adjustment to sober life much easier than returning to the same companions and environment that fostered the alcohol or drug-seeking behavior to begin with.

12-Step Program

While the environment is not obsessively about addiction recovery, residents are encouraged to stay straight and sober. Sometimes, residence is dependent upon enrolling in a 12-step program. This program was founded in the early half of the twentieth century to offer support and guidance to recovering alcoholics. Many of the principles apply to any form of addiction, such as acknowledging that the individual is powerless over their compulsion, that there is a Supreme Being in whom they can trust to guide them and making amends to those have been hurt in the wake of an addicts drug-using lifestyle.

Accommodations

The residences are made comfortable high quality living accommodations. They have their own kitchens, bathrooms and living areas with large-screen televisions, washer and dryer, telephone answering machine, free Internet and soft furnishings. As well as support groups and relapse prevention workshops, these facilities offer a wide range of drug-free pastimes.

Activities

Among the many facilities on offer are a swimming pool and gym. Sporting and community leisure activities form a key part of an early recovery program. They provide residents with the opportunity to form drug-free friendships and spend large amounts of free time engaged in activities that do not remind them of what they are missing by not going back to whatever it was they were addicted to.

Convenience

Most homes are close to shopping, public transportation and 12-step meetings. Private guidance counseling, along with alcohol and drug screening, may also be offered as part of the package. If recovery meetings are not held on site, one will be very near by.

Off-Site Housing

Some meth treatmet facilities have what they refer to as ‘mature homes’. These are off-site residences designed as an intermediate step before launching into completely independent living. Residents are normally graduates of an early phase recovery program. The facilities are very similar to the early recovery homes but slightly more independent. The requisite support and counseling services are nearby, as are meeting facilities.
