He is not renowned for his tactful diplomacy. In fact, American Apparel CEO Dov Charney is better known for multiple sexual harassment and racial discrimination allegations involving youngsters.

Now Mr Charney, 42, has excelled, even by his own standards, by launching a new T-shirt that reads ‘Teenagers do it better.’

Given his company’s reputation for racy ads and a progressive agenda, the T-shirt may not have attracted quite so much attention had it not, by association, been so explicitly glorifying teen sex.

The slogan tee is a collaboration between the controversial fashion chain and magazine Ey!Magateen – a title that says it ‘celebrates the magnificent vitality, energy and power of young male adulthood’ by publishing explicit pictures of boys and young men from 16 to 21-years-old.

It is available to buy on the American Apparel site and is being given away as a gift when ordering the 124-page Spring/Summer 2011 of the magazine, according to the Huffington Post.

On Ey!Magateen’s Tumblr page, a skinny teenage boy wears a cropped version of the T-shirt, suggestively posing in low-rise underwear.

His photo can be found alongside hundreds of others of nude and semi-nude shots of young boys, often in highly sexualised poses.

The subject matter of the T-shirt is not all that is inappropriate about the collaboration – it comes hot on the heels of a string of court appearances by Mr Charney.

The notorious fashion bad-boy has variously been accused of walking around the company headquarters without trousers on, using provocative language towards female staff and running a sexually-charged, hostile environment.

He infamously masturbated in front of a reporter while she was interviewing him in 2004, and the unorthodox directorship of the founder has landed American Apparel in very hot water on numerous, and worryingly frequent, occasions.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Mr Charney said that he would like to recreate the lifestyle Hugh Hefner famously contrived at the Playboy mansion in the 1970s.

Nevertheless, Mr Charney and his legal team have denied all sexual harassment allegations. His lawyer, Peter Schey, said: ‘The allegations are false. I think this is an effort to shake down American Apparel.’

The ’shake down’ may, however, be happening of its own accord. In March, the company, founded in 1989, warned it may have to file for bankruptcy and could face liquidation.

Making an m loss last year, American Apparel’s sales dropped by 4.6 per cent, though this has been blamed in part on ‘extraordinarily challenging world-wide economic conditions.’ Losses have been stemmed after an intervention by British private equity firm, Lion Capital.

Carlisle’s Salvation Army Thrift Shop received an extreme makeover courtesy of Boy Scout Christopher Kaufman, who took on the renovation for his Eagle Scout project.

Kaufman, 17, of Troop 175 and a senior at Carlisle High School, orchestrated the thrift shop’s transformation, which involved a new coat of blue paint, stripping and waxing the floors, hanging storage racks for clothing and other items, and installing a display case for jewelry.

JENNIFER AUTRY, the Patriot-NewsChristopher Kaufman, 17, a senior at Carlisle High School, organized the Salvation Army Thrift Shop renovation for his Eagle Scout project.

“I needed a great place where I could do something for the community for my Eagle Scout project, and the thrift shop seemed like the perfect fit,” Kaufman said.

The shop at 105 S. Hanover St., was re-dedicated recently with about 40 people in attendance.

Majs. David and Karen Wetzel of the Salvation Army Carlisle Corps presented Kaufman with a plaque and thanked him for his hard work. the Wetzels have been on the job as majors for a month and were thrilled to find out thrift shop renovations were under way when they took the post.

“We never had a thrift shop at any of our other posts, so we weren’t really sure about what to expect when we got here,” Karen Wetzel said. “the shop desperately needed some work, and it looks completely different now that the renovations are done.”

David Wetzel said having all the clothes hanging on racks along the shop’s walls will make it easier for people to browse for bargains.

“We were also happy to see that Chris put out the winter clothing on the racks, because cold weather is coming up soon,” he said.

Eagle Scout projects require Scouts to lead other people and delegate tasks, Kaufman said. With the help of his friends and family, including his brother, Michael, 9, the renovations took two days.

“I helped organize all the watches in the jewelry case,” Michael Kaufman said, adding that painting the shop was his favorite part of the project.

Jeanne Troy, director of development for the Salvation Army Carlisle Corps, said home design enthusiasts love to browse the shop for “shabby chic” accessories and hidden treasures.

“the shop is totally different than before,” Troy said. “this will make people want to come in and shop.”

Proceeds from the thrift shop fund the Salvation Army’s programs that help the homeless and those in need, such as My Brother’s Kitchen, the Carlisle soup kitchen located next door to the shop.

In addition to the volunteers who helped with the renovations, Kaufman also received donations from Home Depot, Ross, Target and Papa John’s.

“It’s great to know that people are there to support you and help you when you want to do something for the community,” he said.
